Your Health Check List

After the holiday season, many people feel motivated to reassess their routines and refocus on everyday health habits. Rather than pushing harder or making extreme changes, this period can be a practical opportunity to revisit the fundamentals that support day-to-day wellbeing.

Rest and recovery are not about stopping altogether, they are about building sustainable habits that support consistency over time. The checklist below is designed as a general guide to help veterans reflect on routine, balance, and self-awareness as the new year begins.

Note: This checklist provides general wellbeing information only and is not a substitute for personalised medical advice.

Your Post-Holiday Reset Checklist

Sleep

Many adults aim for 7–9 hours of sleep per night, depending on individual needs. Going to bed and waking up at similar times each day including weekends can help establish routine and predictability.

Sleep routines are commonly discussed as part of overall daily structure and rest.

Hydrate

Some people aim for 2–3 litres of water per day, adjusting for activity levels and climate. Starting the day with water before caffeine may help some individuals feel more alert and comfortable.

Hydration is widely recognised as part of general physical wellbeing.

Movement

Daily movement looks different for everyone. Some people aim for 6,000–10,000 steps per day, adjusted to their current capacity.

Walking and gentle movement are often used as accessible ways to stay active. Adding short periods of stretching or mobility may help maintain comfort and flexibility as part of a regular routine.

Address Discomfort Early

Ongoing discomfort or changes in physical capacity can be signals to pause and reassess routines. If symptoms persist, disrupt sleep, or limit daily activities, it may be appropriate to discuss these changes with a qualified healthcare professional. Early conversations can help guide informed decisions about next steps.

Listen To Your Body

Fatigue, stiffness, headaches, irritability, or changes in sleep can provide useful feedback. Paying attention to these signals may help inform decisions around rest, activity levels, and when to seek advice. Awareness supports informed self-management.
